The American Black Film Festival was founded in 1997 by Jeff Friday and has become the premier showcase for Black film and television content creators. Held annually in Miami Beach each June, ABFF screens independent films, network television premieres, and studio features alongside panels, pitch competitions, and networking events. The festival has launched the careers of directors like Ryan Coogler, Ava DuVernay, and Will Packer, and attracts studio executives, talent agents, actors, writers, and filmmakers from across the industry. ABFF's signature programs include the HBO Short Film Competition, the Comedy Wings Competition sponsored by Kevin Hart's HartBeat Productions, and executive roundtables with decision-makers from major networks and streamers.
